Go Team 9!

So, rodeo season is over...kind of bitter sweet! I received my 5 year service pin this year and am proud to be a member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. I am even more proud to be a member of the Rodeo Express Committee Team 9. What a wonderful group of people to be associated with. In a time when so many people have a "What's in it for me?" attitude, this is truly a group of people that are in it to serve.
I am glad to say that my team members are my friends and I truly care about what happens to them. We had an outstanding group of rookies this year and they really stepped up. I had team members that came to volunteer even though they were injured, most come directly from a long day at work and some come from being at home with their children all day. Others went to work after their volunteer shift to work a full night at their regular jobs. This is truly dedication at its finest and the spirit of volunteerism shines through!
So, to my team mates...thank you for adding to my life! I look forward to seeing you guys all year long. The laughs we share, the meals we eat together (thanks Chuck Wagon Team...your rock!), the bus fumes we inhale together....all of this lifts my heart when I think about all of you! May you all be blessed with a happy and healthy year. May we all return next year to make more memories and share more laughs!

G L A M O R O U S...we were not!

My sisters-in-law, Susan and Heather, and Emmeline, Stephanie and myself went to Fergie last night. I really like her, but when she broke out in her rendition of "Barracuda", I just had the feeling that the night was going to go downhill from there.

She put on a good show though and after shaking our money makers to Fergilicious, we headed out of there. Of course, this is the point where we run into the drunk girl riding on her boyfriend's back with her thong underwear hanging out in all of it's glory.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: If you intend to show your thong to hundreds of rowdy rodeo fans, please make sure that it is a pretty one, not a dingy, older than Moses pair.

Of course, her drunkeness made her feel like Hulk Hogan as she tried to stare me down and threaten to inflict all the pain a 90 pound drunk girl with twigs for arms could bring on. SERIOUSLY?

Check out the Queen of Clean coming out of a porta-potty. You will never see Heather doing this again...and of course, Susan and Stephanie had to razz her while she was in there.

Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year is very important to my family and this was Ethan's first. Ethan's outfit fit him perfectly...and he was quite the hit!

No - I have never been on the Bolivar Ferry!

Nana Pam had an appraisal out on I-10 East so we went along for a ride. The 2 hour trip ended up being a day long affair in which we drove through small towns (think scenes out of "Deliverance") ...no one would get out to ask for directions. We made it to the Bolivar Ferry. What a great day to ride the Ferry! It was a first for myself...and Em and Ethan, too!

Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!

Ethan has had his first trip to the zoo. He loved it and the weather was beautiful that day. It is days like this that remind me how easy going he really can be. Amid the crying children, screaming toddlers and haggard parents, Ethan was a ray of sunshine! He smiled the entire day taking in the sights and sounds. He really liked the elephants and got to hang like the monkeys from the branches!

Nene Cindy and Nana Pam went with and Aunt Adrienne, too. Ethan just adores them and it soothes my soul to know that he is SO loved by everyone around him.

It has been years since I have taken Emmeline to the zoo. I need to remember that she is still young and that she, too, enjoys outings like this. Emmeline and Ethan always have such a good time together. It is wonderful to see the beautiful bond that they are developing with one another....a lifetime of sibling love...check back with me in a couple of years when he is destroying her room:)

Over a month and I am WAY behind!

It has been way over a month since I have blogged...anything! Life has taken over as I am currently at home with Ethan. I love being at home with him, but I can't tell you how long it will last as I really need to get back to work.

Rodeo season has started and this keeps me busy with my obligation there, too. It seems that we have been so blessed in our lives and this is a good way to repay some of that. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is a great organization tht provides scholarships to hundreds of young people every year. I am proud to be a committeeman and a member of such a fine organization.

My home life is busy, too. Nick is working ALOT, as usual. He constantly stresses about work and being our sole provider. He is a very strong man and he is becoming a great dad to Ethan. Their play time is fun to watch...the looks they give each other....the EYE! Nick got "the eye" the other day...I wonder if he realized that he has that same look?!?!

Nick and I don't seem to have enough time for each other these days. Life is hard when you cannot share those quiet times. We both come from families of divorce so we already have 2 strikes against us when it comes to fostering a great relationship. This is going to be alot of work. relationships are never easy, but when you rarely see each other, it becomes even more difficult.

Emmeline has Spring Break next week. We have no plans...just hanging out basically. She wants to go see Fergie at the Rodeo so we will probably do that. Se saw Hannah Montana on Sunday...insanity at its finest. Billy Ray Cyrus came onto the stage to sing "Achey Breaky Heart". I don't think that he has ever played to a crowd that big...ever. Half the kids at the concert didn't even know who he was....just Hannah Montana's dad.

Well. I will catch up with my blogging as soon as possible. Maybe sometime before Ethan's first birthday....crap...I haven't even gotten the invites together for that yet, either!!
